Philosophy
JPHSA has, at its core, the belief that the management and direction of
service provision to persons and families affected by mental illness, substance
abuse or developmental disabilities are best done at the local level. JPHSA
believes Jefferson Parish will be more responsive to, and more supportive of, a
service delivery system that is directed by its own citizenry. The Board of
Director’s values, in governing such a system, focus on inclusion,
independence, access, family involvement, choice, meaningful social roles,
dignity, community acceptance and public confidence in government.
JPHSA staff approach the delivery of services in a coordinated and collaborative
fashion, integrated to treat the whole person. Service delivery occurs with the
knowledge that all persons have the potential to improve and achieve
well-being, i.e. recover. Achieving recovery is not linear. It is a process and
always remains an attainable goal, even when relapse occurs. The key is
individual’s firm commitment.
